The Trussville City Board of Education on Monday approved Blalock Building Company to build Hewitt-Trussville Stadium, the new football stadium to be located behind the Trussville Civic Center.
The Trussville-based building company was revealed as the project’s low bidder last month, with an adjusted
base bid — after a $240,000 deduct — of $13,353,900. After six alternate bids for aspects of the project — precast concrete visitor seating, multipurpose field lighting package and overflow parking, kitchen equipment upgrade for the visitor concession, precast concrete for a home side and visitor side expansion and soccer concessions/restroom building — Blalock’s bid totaled $14,626,550.
Blalock Building Company and a letter of intent to the company were approved contingent upon release by the Army Corps of Engineers to begin the stadium project. The letter serves as an official letter of intent to execute a contract agreement for the new stadium and sports complex.

According to the letter, upon receipt of Blalock’s signature, the building company will be notified to proceed with construction. The contract schedule of 12 months shall commence from the contract approval date and release from the Corps of Engineers.
An estimated completion date for the new stadium could be Aug. 20, 2014, which is about nine days before the 2014 high school football season begins. Should the stadium’s completion affect a home game, the school system could ask the Alabama High School Athletic Association for an exemption to play a scheduled home game on the road.

Blalock Building Company Contracted to
Repair Pinson High School Roof North
Jefferson News, Gardendale, AL - October 12, 2011
By Ben Montgomery, CNHI News Service
PINSON — The Jefferson County
Board of Education accepted a bid yesterday for Phase I repairs for
Pinson Valley High School's auditorium roof; Phase I is the demolition
phase. Blalock Building Company, Inc., located in Trussville, is
contracted to get the demolition job done in 30 days at a cost of
$62,579. Board members said planning for Phase II was dependent on some
elements of the first phase.
A 30-by-40-foot hole ripped in the school’s auditorium ceiling after
a deluge from heavy rains caused by Tropical Storm Lee burst through the
roof. The early September storms also caused numerous downed trees, road
closures and power outages in Fultondale, Gardendale, Warrior and
Morris. The National Weather Service reported 8.94 inches of rain in
Pinson during the storm.
Despite the devastated auditorium, school performances, such as
upcoming Oct. 22 and 23 performances of the play “Children of a Lesser
God,” will go on. Pinson Valley drama teacher Ryan Tittle said the
students are rehearsing in Pinson Valley classrooms for the time being
and will perform the play at Clay-Chalkville High School.
Tittle said the force of the water falling through the ceiling was so
great that it ripped seats from their bolts and scattered them around
the auditorium.
The board of education is estimating about four-and-a-half months to
complete repairs.
